Not too long ago, I posted the first Mech Talk topic concerning my worries regarding the, at the time, dwindling Mech/mecha genre. Mechwarrior 3019 seem to be dead in the water, no other games with similar walking war machines where to be seen on ether side of the pacific and even the Anime industry seem to have suddenly gone cold turkey on giant war machines. I was starting to worry that us MechWarriors had become the last hold outs of mechs genre in general, I couldn't help but to ask 'where the hell where all the Mech jocks on this freak'n plant!?"

Apparently, they where regrouping ;)

Months pass, we finally get word from Tinker and Smith that MechWarrior was alive, well and returning in a big way. The free to play MechWarrior Online was on the way mwomercs.com/ along with the news of Mechwarrior Tactics mwtactics.com/ and MechWarrior Tactical Command www.mechwarriortc.com/ Mechwarrior fans around the world rejoiced and suddenly seemed as if the mech genre itself was revived as other mecha games soon announced in it's wake. Day 1 Studio's own Reign of Thunder, the continuing development of Hawken and a new Steel Battalion.

I Then found this gem of a web comic, My Life at War www.mylifeatwar.com/ Writer summed up the genre quit nicely "Mecha is an interesting genre, because it’s generally a war story, but it pulls heavily from both the superhero stories and soap-operas. A mecha isn’t just a war machine, it’s representative of both its pilot and its nation of origin, an avatar of sorts. It’s a conflict writ large fought by people and machines writ even larger."

This is why I love Mechs and love it when I see the genre grows. Why I love to discover new titles like :iconmecha-workshop: and want to see more like it.

Battletech will always be my first love of the genre of course, the BT Universe so deep, so original (unseen aside ;) ) it will be the measuring stick I use to judge all other giant robot title, it leads the way.

That said, with Mechwarrior now leading way of a new age of mech' combat:
What do you love about mechs the most? What are you looking forward to see and what do you hope to see in the future of the genre?

Look, in my opinion, there is a difference between Mecha and Battle Mechs. I prefer Battle Mechs over Mecha.
